Summer Gains by Socioeconomic Status — Reading Comprehension
April 7, 2006
Test results for 664 Baltimore public school students on the California Achievement Test reading comprehension section varied based on economic status. Students from higher socio-economic backgrounds exhibit significant gains in the California Achievement Test in the summers after first, second, third, and fourth grades. Conversely, students from lower socio-economic backgrounds lose ground on the California Achievement Test in the summers after first and second grade and gain only a little ground during the summer’s after third and fourth grade.
