New Papers: State Roads to Economic Recovery: Policies, Pavements, and Partnerships

The Hamilton Project • Press Release/Media Advisory • February 28, 2011

State governments currently face countless difficult fiscal decisions, including an enormous pressure to sacrifice long-term investments for the sake of short-term spending reductions.  As state and local governments tackle these difficult budgetary decisions, The Hamilton Project at Brookings has focused on new strategies to help government invest more efficiently in much-needed infrastructure projects.

We recently released three new policy proposals, including a new approach to arranging public private partnerships to create greater public value and reduce risks; a reorganization of our national highway infrastructure priorities; and the establishment of a not-for-profit, independent advisory firm that would help reduce borrowing costs for municipalities and increase returns for investors.  Additionally, we released an overarching strategy paper highlighting four policy principals for state and local governments, emphasizing the importance of infrastructure investments for economic growth and prosperity.

Each of the full papers, and their briefs, can be found on the pages below.
