Melvin Stephens Jr.

Melvin Stephens Jr. is professor of economics in the Economics Department at the University of Michigan, with a courtesy appointment in the Ford School of Public Policy. He serves as a research affiliate at the Population Studies Center and a faculty associate at the Survey Research Center, both within the Institute for Social Research. Stephens is also a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. Stephens is a labor economist whose current research interests include consumption and savings behavior, education, impacts of local labor market fluctuations, aging and retirement, and applied econometrics. He received his B.A. in economics and mathematics from the University of Maryland and his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Michigan.
