Stephen C. Smith is professor of economics and international affairs at The George Washington University, and a research fellow of the Institute of Labor Economics (IZA). He recently completed a term as a UNICEF senior research fellow; and he has been a Fulbright Research Scholar, Jean Monnet Research Fellow, and Fulbright Senior Specialist, as well as visiting fellow and then nonresident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution. Smith is coauthor with Michael Todaro of Economic Development, author of Ending Global Poverty, coeditor with Jennifer Brinkerhoff and Hildy Teegen of NGOs and the Millennium Development Goals, and author or coauthor of more than 100 other publications. Smith has done onsite research in developing countries including Bangladesh, China, Ecuador, India, Peru, Senegal, and Uganda. Smith is a member of the BRAC-USA Advisory Council, and has consulted for the World Bank, United Nations Development Program, International Labor Organization, and World Institute for Development Economics Research. He received his Ph.D. in economics from Cornell University.
