Sara Markowitz

Sara Markowitz is Professor of Economics and Director of Graduate Studies in the Economics Department at Emory University.  She holds a joint appointment in the Department of Health Policy and Management in the Rollins School of Public Health, and is a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economics Research.  Dr. Markowitz’s research interests are on the economics of healthy and unhealthy behaviors, with an emphasis on the role of public policies in determining health outcomes.  Much of her research focuses on maternal and child health.  Dr. Markowitz is widely published in general interest and specialty academic journals, and frequently presents her work to audiences at universities, academic conferences, and policy seminars.  She served as an editor of the Southern Economic Journal and is currently on the editorial boards of the Journal of Health Economics and Review of Economics of the Household.  Her research has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.   Dr. Markowitz has won numerous research and teaching awards.  She received her PhD in Economics from the Graduate School of the City University of New York.
