Professor Kolstad is an Assistant Professor of Economic Analysis and Policy at the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley and a Faculty Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research. He is an economist whose research interests lie at the intersection of health economics, industrial organization and public economics. In recent research he has studied consumer decision making in insurance markets, the value of information feedback to physicians in enhancing health care quality and the impact of many key elements of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) on health care delivery, insurance markets and wages and employment, using the Massachusetts experience as a natural experiment. Kolstad was awarded the Arrow Award from the International Health Economics Association for the best paper in health economics in 2014. Professor Kolstad is also a co-founder and Chief Data Scientist at Picwell Inc. Professor Kolstad received his PhD from Harvard University and BA from Stanford University.
